Elastics for braces

Elastics (Rubber Bands)

Wearing elastics (or rubber bands) improves the fit of your upper and lower teeth. Wear rubber bands as instructed and remember that the rubber bands work far more efficiently if they’re worn as prescribed.

Herbst appliance

Herbst® Appliance

The Herbst® appliance reduces overbite by encouraging the lower jaw forward and the upper molars backward. This fixed appliance is used mostly for younger, growing children and is worn for about 12-15 months.

Palatal Expander

The palatal expander “expands” (or widens) your upper jaw by putting gentle pressure on your upper molars each time an adjustment is made. Your orthodontist will instruct you about when and how to adjust your expander. When you achieve the desired expansion, you will wear the appliance for several months to solidify the expansion and to prevent regression.  Click the Image Below for More Info

Retainers may be removable or fixed. They hold your teeth in their new, corrected positions. Wearing your retainer as directed is crucial to prevent regression of your treatment. Together we worked hard to achieve your beautiful smile, and we take seriously the task of helping you maintain that “Smile for Life.” Ask about our Retainer Program! We’re offering four retainers for the price of one! And we want to give you the convenience our Retainer Program offers. Through the program, you will automatically receive a new retainer every 2½ years for a total of ten years, or sooner if your retainer becomes weakened, worn or lost. All you have to do is call our office, and we’ll ship you a new one, anywhere in the world!

Separators or Spacers

Separators are little rubber doughnuts that may be placed between your teeth to push them apart so that orthodontic bands may be placed during your next appointment. The separators will be removed before we place the bands. If your separators fall out before your next scheduled visit, please place the rubber bands given to you at your initial appointment approximately one to two hours before your next scheduled visit. You can follow the diagram given to you at your appointment to see where the separators should be placed. Separators do not mix well with sticky foods, so please avoid these types of snacks while your separators are in place. You will also have to avoid flossing those teeth where separators are located. If you have questions or concerns, please call our office. We’d be happy to help!
